sometimes, there are things that we get attached to for more than what they appear to us. We attach memories to them , our emotions to them and make them a living part of our lives...any such stories to share...?

Come summer, housewives all over the Indian subcontinent, get into a frenzied activity - Pickling ! in spite of the modern Indian women(due to time pressure, work pressure ) opting to buy branded pickles such as Mother's Pickles, Bedekar pickles , Priya pickles etc.(the list is endless) , the traditional art of making pickles at home holds its own place. The Great Indian summer being the ideal season for mangoes , mango pickles are the most commonly made pickles of this season. To name a few, there is the "aavakkai" , "vadumangai'" and manga thokku" of the southern states. The big chunks of mango pickle with aniseed floating in mustard oil of the northern states , the Chundo(sweet and sour grated mango pickle)of Gujarat, - the variety is simply too much. As a child I remember relishing not so much the "to be preserved " pickle as much as the freshly cut & salted mango cubes seasoned(in gingelly oil ) with a dash of mustard seeds, red chillies, and a pinch of asafoetida. The taste of having this with curd rice used to be simply out of this world !

We've all had and love the common favourite mango, lime chilli and the likes. But have you come across, tasted even, something that you could not have imagined could be pickled?

Its weird when you sit to think about it, about how just a sudden craving for eating pickles (a lot of pickles!), repeatedly, can become the first hint for you to realize how life s all about to change. Almost like just a pickle singlehandedly being the first one to break the good news to you, 'youre going to be joined by a new member soon'. It may not be the story with everyone, but it still manages to be one of the most well-known, popular delivery boys for that good news. Was it the same for you? Was it different? Heard about any unusual experience, incident? Whats your pregnancy story?

Buried in those heavy grinding stones, drenched with spices and the handwritten recipe books smudged with turmeric were some of the secrets, our grandmothers used to get that unbeatable, unachievable old-world flavour in whatever they cooked. Its time to simplify the past. All those who believe in wishing to recreate themselves what their taste buds always relished, this place should be of some help. So here's inviting everyone to share their favourite culinary secrets, from the recipes of your favourite Grandma-made dishes, any special family dish or the ones you would simply like to know about. The more we share, the more we explore, the more we all get to relish.

Does anyone remember the parantha rolls with pickle paste inside out? My grandmother used to make these really yummy rolls for me and the balance was such that the pickle would only enhance the taste. And very recently, when I wanted to relive the magic, I decided to add mango and gobhi pickle into one plain parantha...it was heavenly!
Also, pickle with plain rotis and raita is just out of this world.
